Job Before: Change Manager
Current role: Service Desk Analyst @ Eloquent Technologies LTD

Why did you start the Traineeship?

I was made redundant in September, and I quickly decided to look for a route into IT. What Careerswitch offered was perfect for my needs. The job guarantee really helped take the pressure off that particular aspect, allowing me to concentrate on the course material, which was easily digestible, despite being so broad.

What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

I always like to see how the theory can be applied in a practice, so my favourite parts of the traineeship were hearing about real life examples, being taught by professionals with many years of experience behind them.

What's your current role like?

My current role is very enjoyable. Everyone is incredibly supportive and there is a great team spirit. There is also a real focus on broadening people’s knowledge, and helping them to fulfill their long-term goals. I couldn’t be more pleased!

Course: Cyber Security Traineeship
Placement Date: March 2021
Job Before: Commercial Flooring Estimator
Job Now: Service Desk Analyst @ Sopra Steria

Why did you start the Traineeship?

After 15 years in the construction industry it was time for a change. The thought of switching careers had been brewing for a couple of years, but when the pandemic hit it was a case now or never. I knew I wanted to pivot into something that would work around various health issues I have, provide more flexibility with more career avenues than I had previously. After a few weeks of research I found I was constantly homing on IT, Cyber Security in particular. And from there, after talking to Ralph at IT Career Switch to get more information about how the course worked, signing up was a no-brainer.

What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

For me the best thing about the traineeship was the flexibility. I was able to complete each part of the coure in my own time. Each module was perfectly pitched for someone with little to no IT understanding, covering the wide array of subjects in an interesting and engaging way, and the end of module tests helped you consolidate the material you’ve just studied, so you can be confident about taking your first certification.

What's your current role like?

I was offered the role of Service Desk Analyst within 6 weeks of completing the first half of the course, and so far it is exactly what I hoped it would be. Everyday I engage with customers utilising what I have learnt on the IT Career Switch course to help solve their IT issues. My team is wonderfully supportive, embracing the fact that I’m new to the IT sector and they are always available for advice or a helping hand.
