Course: IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: March 2021
Job Before: Window Cleaner
Current role: Colleague Support Engineer @ Saga

Why did you start the Traineeship?

I’ve always had an interest in technology and computers, but never knew how to make it a career. After a job in fast food customer service, and most recently as a Window cleaning business owner for 4 years, I felt like I’d hit a dead end and wanted to do something I was passionate about and that would present further career and learning opportunities. This traineeship seemed like an amazing way to learn new skills and help me get into the IT industry.

What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

The videos were very informative, and the practical training was enjoyable. However what really made the difference to me was the amazing service from my Tutor, Leigh, and my Recruitment specialist, Sarah. They were always so helpful in answering my questions, and in Sarah’s case, keeping me informed on the progress that was being made during the recruitment stage, helping me land an interview within the first 3/4 weeks, and the Cv that was made for me helped me land an interview with the employer I’m with now. I was lucky enough to have 4 interviews (2 first interviews and 2 follow up interviews) with the first 4 weeks.

What's your current role like?

I love my current role. I work as a Colleague Support Engineer for a reputable company based in my hometown, that provides insurance and holidays to over 50s. My job involves providing IT support to the rest of the employees within the company. Although it’s been challenging learning new things and finding my feet, it’s already quickly falling into place and becoming second nature, and I’m part of an amazing team who are always willing and ready to help me learn the ropes in my new role.

Course: IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: February 2021
Job Before: General Manager
Job Now: Service Desk Analyst @ Go-Ahead

Why did you start the Traineeship?

I started the Traineeship after being a General Manager for 5 years in the hospitality industry. I always held a keen interest and passion for the IT industry, taking on jobs – big or small, to gain invaluable hands on experience within the industry. Whilst doing so, I realised I wanted to take the skills I had learnt and use them to gain an official certification, in order to provide myself with an enjoyable career path.

What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

The most enjoyable part, for me, had to be the live labs. Being a kinaesthetic learner I really benefitted from being involved in the interactive learning space. It provides you with the chance to work through different scenarios you may come across in the future, with clear instructions if required, where mistakes can be made and not destroy systems in place. The team who I spoke with made me feel at ease and were very supportive throughout my learning journey and went the extra mile to help me in any way they could, this was highly appreciated especially through the national lockdown.

What's your current role like?

I now, currently work as a 1st Line Service Desk Analyst for Go-Ahead, and I love it. It is an worldwide company that thrives itself in the innovation of technology, covering travel globally via buses/trains and more. I never have the same day twice consistently dealing with new people and problems being the first point of contact for anything IT related. My job role can vary from dealing with problems big and small, from an employee count of over 33,000 all trying to achieve the same goal working together. The job offers amazing personal progression and I am challenged everyday to continue to do my very best to achieve more.
