Course: IT Technician Traineeship
Placement Date: July 2019
Job Before: Community Relation Manager
Job Now: NOC Engineer @ Custodian Data Centres

Why did you start the Traineeship?

I wanted to get into IT for some time and when my job at the time came to it’s logical conclusion I decided to take the plunge. I chanced upon an ad for IT Career Switch, did some further research and it soon became clear that they offered a well structured and detailed course that suited my needs.

What did you enjoy most about the Traineeship?

I tried a few other things previously, a bit of web design and a bit of basic programming stuff, but all of it was a bit ad hoc. With IT Career Switch you have a clear path through your studies, everything felt focused and well structured. That, plus the support offered, made it far easier for me to be disciplined and organised with my studies.

What's your current role like?

I love it, although at times it can be a bit daunting, At Custodian, we specialize in collocation, which means we provide the rack space, the power and cooling infrastructure, but the contents of the racks belongs to the customer. That means that when we provide remote hands we don’t always know for sure what ‘s going to be in the rack or how its configured, which certainly can keep you on your toes!
